7 Best Cities for Vegans To Visit Right Now

One of the most popular questions I get asked is, “What are the best cities for vegans to visit?” It always gives me a chuckle because, to be honest, to appropriately answer that question, there must be a few follow-up questions!

How far do you want to travel?

What kind of weather do you want to have?

Are there certain types of food or experiences that you want?

How much do you want to spend?

The questions could go on, but I share that because, truly, there is no one best city for vegans because it’s really subjective. What’s best for you might not be the best for me, but I know you’re looking for some travel inspiration and ideas to get your travel planning juices flowing, so let’s go!

I’ve based this list on some of my favorite cities, as well as cities that offer a diversity of vegan food options, vegan-friendly hotels, and shopping. I wanted to provide places that just about anyone could enjoy — well, that is, if you like big cities!

So, without further ado, let’s jump into what cities I think vegans will enjoy the most!

The Best Cities Around the World for Vegans

1. Berlin

We’re starting this list with a vegan heavyweight! According to Happy Cow, Berlin is home to over 1,200 vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants — it’s pretty much guaranteed that you won’t go hungry here. Berlin’s progressive culture makes it an ideal place for veganism to thrive. The city’s residents are generally conscious of sustainability, animal rights, and healthy living, which has created a supportive environment for vegan businesses.

Vegan-Friendly Hotels

Sadly, there isn’t a vegan hotel in Berlin, but this chain generally has vegan options on their morning buffet.

This budget-friendly hotel chain always offers modern and clean rooms; most locations offer vegan breakfast options. Another reason that I like this chain is that it has multiple sustainability initiatives to reduce carbon, conserve water, and reduce energy use. If the options aren’t stellar, there is a vegan café called Funk You that is a 7-minute walk from the hotel.

While it’s not a short train or car ride away, Vancouver is another fabulous vegan-friendly city in Canada! 6. Bangkok

I was really surprised by Bangkok when I first visited. I naively thought I could get through most of the city’s options in a few days. Fat chance! Bangkok is home to over 450 vegan and vegan-friendly spots, and it keeps growing! Every day, I would find more and more places and even some really stellar hotel options. Thai cuisine naturally lends itself to veganism, with many traditional dishes being plant-based or easily adaptable. Coconut milk, tofu, fresh herbs, and a wide variety of vegetables are staples in Thai cooking, making it easy to find or modify dishes to be vegan-friendly. Whether you’re craving a hearty bowl of vegan pad Thai, green curry, or innovative fusion dishes, Bangkok has it covered.

Bangkok is a big city; getting around it can take patience and time, so I suggest saving these and others to Google Maps to assess what you can realistically visit. Also, consider the location of spots when choosing where you will stay.

The city is also close to a few ethical elephant sanctuaries.

Last, but certainly not least, sunny Los Angeles! Heading to LA as a vegan is a serious treat; there are plentiful restaurants (over 400), great shops, and some of the best vegan events in the world! If you can plan your trip around the LA Vegan Street Fair, you won’t be disappointed. LA has one of the world’s most developed vegan food scenes, with a vast array of restaurants offering everything from gourmet dining to casual eats. Whether you’re craving vegan sushi, Mexican food, burgers, or innovative raw dishes, you’ll find it in LA.
