12 Spots for Vegan & Gluten-Free Food in LA

Updated March 14, 2024

Los Angeles is known for so many things — chic glamor, Hollywood heavyweights, and a vegan food scene that is off the hook! Seriously, if you only have the time and money to pick one US destination and want to make sure it has great-tasting and amazing vegan options, then you must choose LA.

The sprawling metropolis is packed with elegant patisseries, soul-fulfilling pasta, healthful raw bowls, greasy ‘za, plus SO much more.

We spent five days in LA, and that wasn’t enough time to get to even half of the delicious vegan restaurant options (full vegan guide to LA incase you have more time!) — amazing, right!? Ok, so now what if you need vegan and gluten-free food? No, worries! LA seriously has everything!

By now, I am sure I’ve convinced you that you must visit — so get planning and check out these 12 restaurants for the best vegan and gluten-free food in LA.

The Best Vegan & Gluten-Free Friendly Spots in LA

#1 Sage Plant-Based Bistro & Brewery

1700 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
A
s soon as you walk into Sage, you feel one with the environment — vines climbing the walls, a lush garden surrounding the outdoor patio — it’s hard to believe this plant-based spot is tucked right in the middle of a shopping complex.

The menu is robust — pancakes, mac-n-cheese, BBQ jackfruit, and so much more. Make sure you don’t skip breakfast (served every day!) — there is no better way to start the day than with vegan and gluten-free sweet potato pancakes drenched in sweet maple syrup! But if savory is more your game, check out the zesty chilaquiles topped with their irresistible house-made cheese.

Wait, there’s more! Dessert lovers will rejoice — gluten-free brownies topped with their house-made vegan ice cream, sinful cheesecake, and a regularly rotating selection of other sweets.

#2 Café Gratitude

Multiple locations throughout LA
This California hot spot is known for serving up a side of confidence with all of its dishes — I Am Exquisite, I Am Fantastic — aren’t just daily affirmations but part of Café Gratitude’s must-eat lineup.

The menu features loads of veggie-powered dishes — veggies are superstars here! Make sure you start with an order of their crispy calamari (I Am Exquisite) — young coconut gives this dish its “meaty” texture without being overly coconutty. I think even the most die-hard seafood lover would enjoy this! After the calamari, dive into one of their soul-fulfilling bowls — hearty curry (I Am Humble), zesty Mexican (Yo Soy Mucho), or a balanced macrobiotic (I Am Whole) will all do the trick, and even better, they’re all gluten-free!

One other fantastic thing to note about Café Gratitude, they have vegan brunch and breakfast menus all week!

#3 Pura Vita

8274 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046
C
alling all gluten-free, vegans — if you only have one-day in LA, don’t miss this spot (seriously! To ensure you can get a table, make reservations). Chill out on the patio or saddle up at the bar to enjoy bowls of plant-based carbonara, creamy baked cashew ricotta, or a slice of cheesy ‘za — all with gluten-free options!

While you’re living high in the land of carbs, you can balance it with one of their green salads — Tuscan kale massaged with their house-made Caesar, peppery arugula tossed in an aged balsamic — whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong. And, if by chance you save just a sliver of room for dessert, don’t miss their house-made gelato or chocolate peanut butter torta — all gluten-free to boot! Doesn’t this sound like vegan, gluten-free heaven?

One last note, they also serve brunch on the weekends!

#4 Dear Bella Creamery

1253 Vine St # 12, Los Angeles, CA 90038
You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! This smile-inducing LA creamery is 100% vegan and gluten-free — even the waffle cones! Started by two friends who were disappointed by the available dairy-free ice cream options growing up, they now delight customers with a delicious assortment of creative house-made ice creams and sweets!

Whether you’re looking for a traditional scoop of cookie dough or bee-free honee comb, you’ll find it here! Load up a bowl or one of their sweet waffle cones with scoops of Cookie Monster (enhanced with blue spirulina for its fun color), coffee chip, sunflower buttercup, and many more delightful flavors!

Want to be a little extra? Pile that ice cream between two of their house-made cookies or atop a fudgy brownie for a special treat!

#5 Shojin

12406 Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066
From the gracious greetings to the warm and inviting atmosphere, it’s clear you’re not walking into just any restaurant — it’s more like home. All of the dishes at this vegan and gluten-free Japanese spot are created with the highest level of creativity and care — no corners are cut to just save a buck.

Forget about basic cucumber avocado rolls and get ready to be delighted with wagyu eggplant nigiri, mushroom crab, pumpkin tempura, and many more tempting delights. Aside from sushi, their menu also offers an array of salads and noodles, but be sure to leave room for one of their eye-catching desserts — the green tea matcha cake is hard to pass up! And, if you just can’t decide what to order, let the chef choose with their unique tasting menu — you get to sample a little bit of everything.

#6 Erin McKenna’s Bakery

Two locations: Santa Monica & Larchmont Blvd., LA
It’s always a bummer when you walk into a bakery and are hit with the smell of chocolate cake and cinnamon rolls but your sampling has to end with your sniffer because none of its gluten-free!

Well, my friends, at Erin McKenna’s not only is everything vegan but it’s also 100% gluten-free — so, get ready to sample your heart out. Their sweets lineup is a mile long and includes crowd favorites like their own special Thin Mint cookies, strawberry shortcake, fudge-covered donuts, cupcakes, and so much more!

And, if you don’t have a huge sweet tooth and prefer savory carbs, you’re in luck! Check out their selection of biscuits, veggie bombs, and bagels.

#7 Chaumont Vegan

145 S Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90212
As you walk up, you’ll notice two doors — Chaumont and Chaumont Vegan — the original spot has been baking up French pastries for 10 years, but in 2020 they opened its fully vegan counterpart.

This spot is seriously a feast for all of your senses! Sadly, none of the gorgeous croissants are gluten-free, but they have a few things that are definitely worth the visit. Check out their beautiful hazelnut rose cake, fancy yogurt and granola bowl (house-made granola served with coconut yogurt, poached pears, blood oranges, and strawberry jam), or a Power Up bowl (almond milk, almond butter, banana, raspberries, hemp seed, granola) to get your day started! This is one of those spots that no one would guess is vegan!

#8 Crossroads Kitchen

8284 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046
When you ask just about any vegan in LA where they love to eat, Crossroads usually always comes up on everyone’s list! And, it does not just please the veggie crowd; their entire premise is to delight the palates of all diners, hence their name Crossroads.

The chic ambiance and the refined lineup of vegan dishes will wow even the most difficult diners. Small plates of artfully styled veggies, house-made meats, cheeses, and more are all absolutely killer — the dishes are meant to be shared (just in case you’re not a sharer, you will be here). It will be hard to decide what to order, but be sure not to miss their house-made cheese board (the gluten-free toasts are one of the best I’ve had in a long time!).

They also offer brunch on the weekends — don’t miss it if you’re in town!

#9 Gracias Madre

8905 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069
Thankfully, the days of sad black bean tacos are banished once you step inside this hip Mexican eatery. Dreams of tortillas smothered in a creamy cheese sauce and nachos covered in zesty sour cream come beautifully to life.

Get ready for an array of Mexican-inspired favorites that are all 100% vegan with tons of gluten-free options. Their menu reads more like a top 10 list of all the things you can’t miss rather than just a few stand-out champs. Make sure you come hungry! Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong with a glass of sweet sangria and their mountain of delicious nachos.

On the weekends, be sure not to miss their brunch lineup — many regular favorites and a few specialties that you shouldn’t miss.

#10 Veggie Grill

Multiple locations throughout LA
The bright, welcoming veggie sign beckons the veg-curious from far and wide! If you’ve ever wanted something you can grab quickly that is tasty, affordable, and vegan, Veggie Grill is your place!

This fast-casual vegan joint is whipping up everything from plant-powered kale salads to juicy burgers — you really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose! What’s even better? The menu is well marked for gluten-free items or items that could easily be made gluten-free — how awesome is that?

There are multiple locations throughout LA for vegan and gluten-free food, so you never have to worry about finding something when you’re on the go.

#11 Monty’s Good Burger

Multiple locations throughout LA
Super fun vegan burger joint with a cute pup for a mascot — what more could you ask for? All of their burgers are made with Impossible patties which are gluten-free, just confirm which sauces are safe and sub out a regular bun for a gluten-free one and you’re good to go! And, all of their tantalizing fries are already gluten-free — enjoy!

#12 Ladurée

311 N Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Super chic French patisserie right in the heart of Beverly Hills. Don’t miss their vegan and gluten-free macarons — flavors include salted caramel, passion fruit, coffee, rose, blackcurrant violet, pistachio, and more!
