Vegan & Vegetarian Breakfast Spots in Amsterdam

#1 Koffie ende Koeck

Haarlemmerweg 175, 1051 LA Amsterdam, Netherlands
No visit to Amsterdam is complete without visiting this super cozy vegan café! From the laid-back atmosphere to the gorgeous vegan pastries, I am pretty sure that you’ll be smitten with everything! Every day (except Monday & Tuesday), you can stroll in for a sensational lineup of sweet and savory breakfast pastries — these (and their afternoon tea) are what they’re well known for. You’ll find traditional and creative veganized pastries like a cheesy spinach quiche in a puff pastry crust, sweet cinnamon rolls, light, flaky croissants, plus so much more!

#2 Spirit Amsterdam

Czaar Peterstraat 2a, 1018 PR Amsterdam, Netherlands
This spot reminds me a ton of the vegetarian buffet chain Tibits, which is peppered across Switzerland. I even tried to lobby them via social media to come to the US! Maybe I should try with Spirit, too?! If you’re totally unfamiliar with any of that, no worries! Spirit Amsterdam is a vegetarian buffet restaurant that has over 50 different dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with many vegan options — how fabulous is that? The concept is that you can load your plate as sky-high as you want and pay by weight. You can find vegan pancakes, crunchy granola, fresh bread, delicious spreads, and much more at breakfast. The buffet is well-marked for vegan options and allergens.

#3 Factory Girl

Saenredamstraat 32, 1072 CH Amsterdam, Netherlands
This is the kind of place where I want to grab a second cup of coffee and hang around for a while. The bright and modern vegetarian café is effortlessly cool — a light and bright esthetic punctuated with greenery just about everywhere. When it comes time to order breakfast, you’re in for a treat — I’d say about half of the menu is vegan or could be made vegan! For something sweet, go for a stack of vegan and gluten-free pancakes topped with whipped cream and marmalade; for something even sweeter, they have a Coco Anjela bowl, a breakfast twist on one of their favorite desserts! If neither of those appeal to you, no worries; you’ve still got vegan shakshuka, veggie tofu scramble, and more to check out!

#4 Rainbowls Amsterdam

Frans Halsstraat 40, 1072 BS Amsterdam, Netherlands
I’m sure you probably already guessed it from their name, but in case you didn’t, this plant-based spot is all about the popular smoothie bowl! They’ve got a ton of epic creations swirled and styled with peanut butter and concoctions that look like fruity rainbows — almost too pretty to eat! Another bonus is that many of their bowls are topped with diverse fruits like passionfruit, mango, and young coconut. In addition to the bowls, they also have a stellar lineup of fresh juices, smoothies, chia pudding, and more.

#5 Wild & The Moon

Multiple locations throughout Amsterdam
More breakfast bowls and these bad bowls are served all day! These health-focused vegan cafes are all about creating food that’s not only good for you but also for the planet. This means they’re super conscious about what they’re putting on their menu and they source as much as possible locally and seasonally. Since breakfast is served all day, you don’t have to worry about hustling down to a location to get your hands on their classic (and slightly addictive) granola bowls. These bowls are filled with house-made sprouted granola and topped with various fruits and warm house-made almond milk. On top of the granola, they also have delicious Moon Porridge and a colorful lineup of fruity smoothie bowls.

#6 Veganees

Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 45H, 1054 BS Amsterdam, Netherland
If you’re not an early riser, grabbing brunch here might be the perfect way to kick off your agenda! You can’t miss this funky spot — just look for the restaurant that looks like it’s been covered in a kaleidoscope of color, from giant yellow umbrellas to their fuchsia, turquoise sign greeting you! The small vegan brunch menu has everything from sweet to savory depending on how you’re feeling. On the sweet side, check out their special fluffy Japanese pancakes or maybe a slice of banana bread, and for something savory, you’ve got the fan-favorite avocado or kimchi toast.

Vegan-Friendly Breakfast Spots in Amsterdam

#7 Lavinia Good Food

Kerkstraat 176, 1017 GT Amsterdam, Netherlands
This eclectic and hip spot is a unique menagerie of furniture and décor that somehow just works! It’s the kind of spot where, after you order, you want to wander a bit and check everything out. All week long, the vegan-friendly spot is dishing out breakfast favorites and, luckily, has included more than one vegan option on its menu (thank you!). The menu is well-marked; just look for the little “vg,” and you’ll find delicious options like roasted eggplant with smokey portabella bac’n or a Matcha coco delight bowl (coconut yogurt with granola, fruit, and mint). There are quite a few vegetarian options that could also be made vegan, like avocado toast or veggie-packed bowls.

#8 Heart-Garden Waffles & Coffee

Czaar Peterstraat 74, 1018 PR Amsterdam, Netherlands
This cute vegan-friendly café has perfected the art of making the perfect vegan waffle that’s crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Their vegan waffle is made with rice milk and flavored with a pinch of cinnamon. You can enjoy it plain or load it up with fresh fruits, dates, nuts, peanut butter, jam, and more. If, for some reason, waffles aren’t your thing, they also have a few smoothie bowls that might hit the spot.

#9 Pancake Company

Singel 492A, 1017 AW Amsterdam, Netherlands
Alright, pancake fans, this spot has your name all over it! Here, you can make your own creative pancake masterpieces and load them up with as much or as little as you want. The first step is to start with their vegan pancake base, then move on to the toppings — most of the vegan options are fruit, but they also have dark chocolate! Everything on the menu is super well-marked, so you don’t have to worry about choosing the wrong thing.
