Where to Find Vegan Breakfast & Brunch Eats All Week in Hamburg

#1 Isabella Glutenfreie Pâtisserie

Alte Oberpostdirektion, Stephanspl. 1-3, 20354 Hamburg, Germany
Vegan and gluten-free friends, you’ve found paradise! This gluten-free patisserie is vegan-friendly and amazing — seriously, I am not exaggerating even a tiny bit. If I could come here all of the time, I would be super happy, but my pants probably wouldn’t fit. This might be a trade-off I am willing to make.

Anyway, back to the vegan breakfast eats! For a more traditional German breakfast feast, check out Isabella’s Vegan Cheesy Delight (house-made bread, a selection of vegan cheeses, with fig mustard, and more). In addition to feasting on bread and cheese, you’ll also find a massive lineup of house-made granola that you can enjoy with soy yogurt, house-made quiche, and so many pastries! Every day, their display case is filled with a variety of freshly made sweet breakfast treats like croissants, cinnamon snails, banana cake, and more.

#2 Mamalicious

Max-Brauer-Allee 277, 22769 Hamburg, Germany
This all-American-inspired vegetarian diner is slinging massive stacks of fluffy chocolate chip pancakes and savory tofu scrambles loaded with extra crispy potatoes all day long! The portions are absolutely hearty — this isn’t a brunching experience for meek eaters; come hungry! As soon as you see these breakfast plates, you’ll understand why there’s always a line on the weekend (go early).

On top of comfort-food breakfast favorites, they also have a sinful lineup of special coffee drinks topped with coconut whipped cream and boozy brunch mimosas — is there a better way to start the day?

#3 Katers Köök – Veganes Deli & Katzencafé

Kleiner Schäferkamp 24, 20357 Hamburg, Germany
Have you ever thought, you know, I’d like to share my breakfast with a kitty cat? Well, if you have, you don’t have just one chance to do that; you have two (the next spot, too) in Hamburg. This lovely, modern café rescued multiple cats from around Europe that get to call this delicious vegan café home!

In between chin scratches, the chefs at this café are cooking up a diverse mix of breakfast fare — German-style pancakes filled with apples or strawberry and rhubarb or more traditional platters of fresh bread with yummy spreads, nut butter, veggies, and more. No breakfast would be complete without a delicious oat milk latte enhanced with their house-made caramel syrup.

One more bonus: they have a ton of gluten-free options (even the pancakes)!

#4 Katzentempel Hamburg Hafencity

Überseeboulevard 2-4, 20457 Hamburg, Germany
Remember how I said you have two opportunities to enjoy breakfast with a kitty? Well, here’s the second one in Hamburg’s beautiful Hafencity! Just like at Katers Köök, these kitties have been rescued and now get to call the Katzentempel home.

If you show up here downright hangry, these cats have just the thing for you: their special Hangover Breakfast! This feast is filled with baked beans, tofu scramble, house-made bread, and more! It’s like an English vegan breakfast meets German breakfast kind of feast. If that didn’t tickle your fancy, then maybe a croissant breakfast sandwich or slice of toasted banana bread will! One neat fact about this spot: it’s actually a franchise! There are multiple locations throughout Germany — if you love cats and vegan food, you could open one, too!

#5 JUICERY by Em

Neuer Pferdemarkt 12, 20359 Hamburg, Germany
After a few too many stacks of fluffy maple syrup-covered pancakes and veggie sausages, you might be looking for a spot for a superfood boost; this is it! You’ll be smitten as soon as you walk into this bubblegum pink café — it’s the cutest spot for a mini Insta-worthy photo shoot or to meet up with your favorite people.

On the superfood side, they’ve got a colorful lineup of smoothies and smoothie bowls enhanced with the antioxidant powers of spirulina, crunchy seeds, fresh fruit, and more. If you’re not feeling superfood-y, no worries; they also have a variety of freshly baked vegan waffles topped with strawberries, maple syrup, and dusted with powdered sugar!

#6 Bistro Ivy

Hopfensack 8, 20457 Hamburg, Germany
This quaint vegetarian café will delight you with its quirky pancake presentation and heart-topped lattes! All week long, you can roll in here for a stack of golden pancakes topped with fresh fruit and drizzled with caramel or a savory feast of scrambled tofu with fresh herbs and veggies. But don’t dilly dally getting there; breakfast is only served until 11:30 AM during the week and 4 PM on the weekend.

It’s also conveniently located near the train station and Rathaus, making it an ideal spot to kick off a day of sightseeing throughout the city!

#7 was wir wirklich LIEBEN

Hegestraße 28, 20251 Hamburg, Germany
You can zoom into this hip vegetarian eatery and grab a cinnamon snail and a latte to go, or take a seat on the spacious patio and linger awhile over a colorful breakfast feast! The well-marked menu has plenty of options for vegans, from green giant-approved avocado toast to bowls of muesli topped with fresh fruit and soy yogurt.

To add more color to your morning, don’t miss their smoothie lineup — a fruity and fun mix of fresh berries and veggies. There’s no better way to start the day.

#8 ÆNDRÈ

Lehmweg 31A, 20251 Hamburg, Germany (Deli location)
Schlüterstraße 86, 20146 Hamburg, Germany (Restaurant location)
No matter if you visit their deli or restaurant location, you’re in for a chic meets health dining experience. This boho plant-based brand exudes Anthropologie vibes, and if you’ve ever visited one of those, you know how difficult it is not to want to buy just about everything; the feeling is the same here.

The entire menu centers around creating seasonal dishes bursting with all the good-for-you things and no refined sugar or wheat — almost everything is gluten-free. In the morning, you’ll find eye-catching bowls filled with house-made granola and yogurt, bright green avocado smeared across toast, a rainbow lineup of fresh juice, and much more.

#9 ima vegan

Lappenbergsallee 36, 20257 Hamburg, Germany
Although vegan pastries are the name of the game at this modern meets slightly retro café, you shouldn’t miss their small breakfast lineup. Each breakfast item is a play on their name, a declaration of sorts of maybe who you are? Well, you can be the judge of that.

Maybe you’re single and go for a traditional platter of house-made bread, jam, cheese, granola, and yogurt, or perhaps you’re a double (large enough for two)? If you’re not feeling either of those, maybe you’re a little French instead (house-made croissant with jam)?

#10 The Good One Café

Eimsbütteler Chaussee 71, 20259 Hamburg, Germany
Just down the street from Mamalicious is another can’t-miss breakfast spot with a kaleidoscope of sweet and savory breakfast dishes. This plant-based café excels at taking basic breakfast favorites and giving them a head-turning makeover.

If you’re feeling salty, check out their creative toasts topped with cheese, caramelized onion, mushrooms, truffle oil, or a giant breakfast burrito filled with scrambled tofu. If you’re more of a sweet breakfast eater, you won’t want to skip their adorable mini stacks of fluffy pancakes topped with caramelized banana and maple syrup.

Hamburg Weekend Vegan Brunch Spots

#11 Café Koppel

Koppel 66, Lange Reihe 75, 20099 Hamburg, Germany
For over 35 years, this vegetarian café has been pushing a plant-centric agenda. Grab a table next to its large, sun-filled windows on the main floor or take a seat up in the loft for a fun people brunching perspective.

Bread lovers will be over the moon for their weekend brunch menu. For a carb-filled start to the day, check out their Xtra Vegana (two rolls, house-made nut butter, veggie meats, muesli, and more); if that’s a little too heavy, go for the Vegan Sweetie (a single roll with jam, butter, and nut butter) or an order of scrambled tofu. They also have a diverse lineup of fresh juice, specialty tea, coffee, and more.

#12 Froindlichst

Barmbeker Str. 169, 22299 Hamburg, Germany
This mega charming and delicious vegan comfort food brand was developed by a group of friends who lovingly call themselves the Three Musketeers (they also have a location in vegan-friendly Berlin). They’re on a mission to create a welcoming space for people to fall in love with cruelty-free food. Well, I think they’ve succeeded.

On Sundays, their Winterhude location has a special brunch menu that features a delicious mix of savory and sweet eats. The menu changes every week but never disappoints! Reservations are encouraged (via their website) — you don’t want to miss it.
