Top 5 Vegan Restaurants on Koh Samui, Thailand

The wide variety of vegan restaurants on Koh Samui makes eating plant-based almost effortless. Built on coconut farming and life by the sea, what was once a quiet island has transformed into one of Thailand’s most developed destinations.

For years, Koh Samui was relatively isolated. That all changed in 1989 with the opening of Samui Airport. Suddenly, the island was accessible, and transformation accelerated.

Beach huts became resorts, local roads improved, and Koh Samui began to establish itself on the global travel map.

Yet, it’s only in recent years that it’s become more vegan-friendly.

Vegan Restaurants in Koh Samui: Wellness, Luxury, and Authenticity

Today, it’s known for its stunning beaches, luxury villas, and a strong wellness scene built around yoga, clean eating, and mindfulness. It attracts a mix of tourists, digital nomads, and those looking for a more polished island experience.

Koh Samui may not be the cheapest place in Thailand, but it’s a surprisingly good place to eat vegan, with a growing mix of plant-based cafés, local Thai spots, and wellness-focused menus across the island.

So, whether you’re here for smoothie bowls by the sea or vegan versions of Thai classics, let’s dive into the best vegan restaurants Koh Samui has to offer.

Halapua Restaurant

Bo Put, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand

Inspired by the story of two islands, Halapua ingeniously fuses Sicilian cooking with the freshest local ingredients. They’ve chosen to keep the menu small and focused, in a way that feels both rooted and completely unique. From the vegetables and aromatics they grow on their farm to every plate that comes out of the kitchen, their passion shines through.

Yes, it’s expensive, even by Samui standards. But the value for money is genuinely incredible. In the US, you’d easily be paying hundreds of dollars for a meal of this quality. I couldn’t believe the gentle yet rich flavors of their black bean and walnut polpette, plant-based meatballs in a savory tomato sauce finished with vegan cheese.

The parmigiana was just as impressive. Layers of soft, perfectly cooked eggplant in a delectable sauce took me straight back to my childhood, and a dish my mom used to make for me. The refinement at Halapua may be on another level, but the love and care are exactly the same.

And then there’s the setting. Dining above an infinity pool, looking out across the island and sea beyond is quite simply one of the best vegan dining experiences you can have in all of Thailand, let alone Samui. Halapua is totally worth it and shouldn’t be missed. Also, it’s connected to the vegan resort Kapuhala, which you might want to check out if you haven’t booked a hotel room!

Noodles Now

9/62 Moo 2, Bo Put, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani 84320, Thailand

Names can be deceiving, because Noodles Now does so much more than you might assume. Arguably one of the more fun places to eat on Samui, Noodles Now is probably my favorite spot for a Thai meal on the island. That’s saying something considering there are a few of my beloved Jay restaurants knocking about (one of which I’ll be sharing later on in this list).

I’m absolutely in love with their Thai tapas. Some absolute legends like Chiang Mai sausage, curry puffs, and fried Chinese chive cakes can be found here and nowhere else on the island. I’ve tried almost all of them and can confirm that Noodles Now has them spot on. But their noodles are where things really get interesting. Thai classics you’d normally expect with rice, like pad krapow or massaman, are completely reworked into bold, flavor-packed noodle dishes. That’s alongside green curry, khao soi, and a few other staples.

You’re getting all the punchy sauces, herbs, and textures that make Thai food so addictive, just in a different format that feels fresh and genuinely exciting. It’s creative without being gimmicky, and every dish still feels grounded in real Thai flavors. For vegan Thai food on Samui, there aren’t many better places than Noodles Now.

MY Vegan Food Shop & Café

276/1 Moo 3, Taling Ngam, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani 84140, Thailand

MY Vegan may initially seem like your average plant-based café from yesteryear, but you have to remember that we are in Thailand. What they’re doing here is actually pretty special.

It has that familiar, old-school vegan feel, the kind that wouldn’t necessarily excite you back home. But the real honesty of their food, simple, healthy, and clearly made with love, allow the quality of the ingredients to do all of the talking.

What’s really amazing is that they make so much in-house. Their vegan cheese, butter, and meat alternatives are all homemade. I shared (or battled over) their vegan cheese board and “meat” platter, two separate dishes, both were unreal. If I lived on Samui, I’d be stocking up without hesitation.

Alongside that, they cover all the familiar favorites like burgers, lasagna, vegan omelets, and a full range of breakfast options. I wish I’d had time to try more because it all looked so good. The beautiful setting only adds to the experience. Just a stroll from the beach, it still somehow feels tucked away in the jungle, surrounded by coconut trees and greenery.

But as part of a yoga centre, it’s also adults-only, no children allowed. If that doesn’t apply to you, you’ve got no excuse not to pay a visit.

Lamai Veggie

138/14 Moo 4, Maret, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani 84310, Thailand

A list of top vegan restaurants in Thailand would be incomplete without at least one Jay spot, and Lamai Veggie is the proud representative for Samui. Jay is a Thai plant-based food tradition with roots in Chinese Buddhism. They may only represent less than 1% of the population, but most towns and cities across the country have at least one, unmissably yellow, Jay restaurant. Samui has a few, but Lamai is my favorite.

They serve a wide range of curries, sides, and rotating dishes. Most of them are local, traditional, and healthy. You can build a plate with a bit of everything, often with no idea of what you’re eating, but confident it will all be delicious.

I ate there every day when I was staying at Lamai Beach, and never got bored. Prices are cheap for Samui, though still a touch higher than you’d find on the mainland. Generally, though, it’s more than fair for what you’re getting, especially given the location.

They’ve also added some more familiar options, like a burger and sometimes sandwiches, which make it an easy choice if you’re not in the mood for a full plate of curries. For a simple, affordable vegan meal just minutes from the beach, Lamai Veggie is a gift.

KOA Dining

442 Had Lamai Rd, Maret, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani 84310, Thailand

Despite not even being a fully vegetarian restaurant, KOA celebrates its vegan dishes and deserves a place on this list. Set within a beachfront resort, KOA, isn’t just somewhere you come for food, it’s somewhere you settle into for the whole day. You’ve got the sea right in front of you, a beautiful pool, and an upscale feel without it ever becoming stuffy.

They offer two day-pass options, at roughly $30 and $40, both of which give you access to the pool and beachfront. The best part is that the cost of the pass can be redeemed as credit for food and drinks.

But if you just want to eat, you can still do so without a pass.

It’s worth emphasizing again that it isn’t a fully plant-based restaurant, but the vegan options are far from an afterthought. They’re treated with the same care and attention as every other dish.

I treated myself to the vegan carbonara after a long day in the sun. It was rich, creamy, and truly indulgent. The mushroom tempura was just as good. Light, crisp, and served with a ridiculously delicious wasabi mayo.

It may seem expensive, but in reality, it’s fantastic value for money. If you want a proper Samui experience, done vegan, KOA is a genuinely unique option.
