Vegan Resorts in Chiang Mai, Thailand

#1 Away Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand
Come to this vegan retreat if you’re looking to be steps from Chiang Mai’s bustling streets but enjoy a little peace and tranquility. A stay here is within a short walk of iconic sights like the Tha Pae Gate, the Night Bazaar, and Warorot Market. The resort offers guests luxurious amenities and experiences, but the pièce de résistance is the mouthwatering vegan cuisine at its onsite Moreganic restaurant.

Here you can enjoy a mix of globally-inspired dishes, including traditional Thai specialties that feature fresh local ingredients. One important note, the hotel follows traditional Thai Buddhist values and abstains from alcohol — if that’s important to you, grab a drink before you head back to your room at a local restaurant.

In addition to exploring Chiang Mai and stuffing yourself silly at Moreganic, you might also be interested in lounging by their relaxing pool, taking a yoga class, or learning more about the Thai Buddhist culture by making a Buddhist offering in the morning.

Don’t miss all of the other fabulous vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai too!

#2 Green Tiger House

Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand
Having one vegan resort in a city is pretty fantastic; what would you say about having two? Well, in Chiang Mai, there isn’t just one vegan resort; there are two! This welcoming guest house is also located in the Old City and is well-loved for its convenient location, comfortable rooms (the shower is heated with solar power), and vegan restaurant, the Reform Kafe!

You can start your day with a fresh juice and a traditional Northern Thai breakfast feast, but you’ll want to come back to enjoy their other Western-inspired and Thai specialties like Khao Soi noodle curry, Tom Yum soup, spicy papaya salad, and more! All of their dishes are made with locally-sourced, organic, or pesticide-free ingredients whenever possible.

In addition to hanging out and eating, the hotel is happy to help plan exciting activities for you, from cooking on a local farm to trekking through the vibrant green jungle and everything in between.

Vegan & Vegan-Friendly Resorts on Koh Samui, Thailand

#3 Kapuhala Koh Samui

Ko Samui Island, Southern Thailand
If you’ve been daydreaming of escaping to a lush, green paradise surrounded by shimmering blue waters, here’s your chance! This vegan resort focuses on creating a holistic wellness experience that centers on physical health, mental wellness, and spiritual growth. This getaway might not be for everyone; its focus on combining physical activity with a plant-based diet and sustainable living practices attracts those looking to up their game and often attracts entrepreneurs, athletes, and corporate ladder climbers.

Everything at the resort is framed around your well-being, from re-setting your circadian rhythm with the morning sunlight and sunset yoga to the innovative and nutrient-dense plant-based fare. At the onsite Halapua restaurant, you can enjoy a mix of Sicilian and Asian-inspired dishes made with seasonal and local ingredients, much of which is grown on their onsite farm.

Kapuhala’s philosophy also includes a commitment to Mother Nature. Single-use plastics are banned throughout the resort, and waste is managed carefully and composted when possible. The resort hopes to increase guests’ awareness of their carbon footprint throughout its practices.

#4 Samahita Retreat

The island of Koh Samui, Thailand
While not a traditional resort, the Samahita Retreat offers a holistic approach to health, fitness, and well-being with an emphasis on yoga. While it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll stumble upon a yoga retreat when visiting here, you don’t have to be an avid yogi to book a room!

The retreat offers a variety of accommodations, including private rooms and shared rooms. The rooms are designed to provide a comfortable and serene environment that complements the overall wellness experience.

When it comes to food, there’s a strong emphasis on healthy eating. You’ll find a colorful variety of nutritious and balanced meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The cuisine is often vegetarian or plant-based and tailored to support guests’ well-being. In addition to that, they always mark which dishes are vegan, gluten-free, etc., so there’s no guessing!

#5 Absolute Sanctuary

The island of Koh Samui, Thailand
If you need more options on Koh Samui, here you go! This vegan-friendly, wellness-inspired resort focuses on a holistic range of programming that includes spa treatments, fitness, weight loss, and more. If you’re looking for specific programming, you should check out their wellness test, which asks you to select the goal(s) you’d like to work on; from there, it will provide you with an extensive list of options that can be tailored to you.

Their focus on wellness continues into the kitchen. The onsite restaurant, The Love Kitchen, serves superfood-packed dishes made from whole food and local ingredients. In the morning, you can start the day with raw cashew banana pancakes or house-made coconut chia sago (a yogurt-like blend of coconut and chia with fresh tropical fruit), then later in the day, come back for hearty veggie quinoa paella or Thailand’s famous Massaman curry. They have a pretty extensive lineup of vegetarian options, many of which are vegan.

When you’re looking to relax, don’t forget to schedule a visit to their peaceful spa, which has a terrific lineup of rejuvenating options like massages, body scrubs, facials, and other holistic therapies.

Vegan-Friendly Resort on Koh Kood

#6 Soneva Kiri

The island of Koh Kood, Thailand
Although this eco-luxury resort is only a short 90-minute flight from Bangkok, it feels worlds away from the hustle of big city life. The off-the-beaten-path location and unique design choices will immediately make you feel like you have the entire lush jungle to yourself — this is the ultimate in relaxation!

In addition to soaking in the peaceful ambiance, you can enjoy a range of luxurious accommodations, including spacious villas with private pools and stunning views. These villas often feature unique designs, open-air living spaces, and high-end amenities to ensure a comfortable and exclusive stay.

On the food side, Soneva Kiri is no stranger to plant-powered dining. There are multiple dining options, but for the best vegan options, check out the plant-based menu at the Colours of the Garden. The menu features a mix of Mexican and Thai inspiration with delicious dishes like pulled mushrooms in banana leaf, Thai eggplant scallops, and more.

One last bonus about staying here is that in 2008 they enacted a 2% environmental levy on all stays, and the money supports the Soveva Foundation, which invests in various environmental projects, including offsetting the impact of guests’ stays.

Vegan-Friendly Resorts in Bangkok, Thailand

#7 Ariyasom Villa

Bangkok, Thailand
For a unique stay, vegan-friendly resort in the heart of Thailand’s capital look no further than this boutique 1940s Thai villa surrounded by lush tropical gardens. No details were left untouched, from the unique architectural details with antique charm to the recycled teak floors.

The property is small; there are only 24 rooms which provides guests with an unparallel level of service and privacy. After hours of travel and sightseeing, you’ll want to make an appointment at their spa for a traditional Thai massage to work out all those kinks!

When you’re ready to eat, you’re in for a treat. Over the years, the onsite Na Arron restaurant has transitioned from “mangsa vi rat,” essentially meaning no killing, to offering some dairy, egg, and seafood products. Today, it is primarily vegetarian, with a heavy amount of Thai vegan dishes like spicy green papaya salad (tam Thai kai kem), fried tofu with peanut sauce (tao hoo tod), and crispy noodles (mee grob).

#8 Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand
I had the opportunity to stay here in November, 2023, and man did it set a high bar for every other hotel I stayed in thereafter! The Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok is a sophisticated and stylish urban sanctuary situated in the heart of Bangkok, offering terrific vegan options and panoramic city views.

Given that the hotel errs on the boogie side, it has a strong commitment to culinary excellence, which means no vegan is leaving hungry! All of their restaurants offer full vegan menus that features a diversity of globally-inspired eats.

In addition to the plant-based eats, you’ll also be happy to hear that the hotel is certified LEED silver and prioritizes a long eco-friendly agenda. Some of its initiatives include: no single use plastics, non-toxic cleaning products, triple glazed windows, and more.

Vegan-Friendly Resort in Krabi, Thailand

#10 Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra

Krabi, Thailand
Situated on the shores of the Andaman Sea, this five-star resort seamlessly combines French elegance with Thai hospitality, offering you an indulgent escape. Once you get a look at their lush tropical gardens and gorgeous sprawling pool, you just might not want to leave.

On the vegan side, their onsite Indian and Thai restaurant, White Lotus is the best place on property to head for dinner. You’ll find a great variety of flavorful dishes to enjoy — I recommend adding tofu to one of the Thai noodle dishes! For breakfast, the buffets signs are marked with allergens which is helpful, but the head chef is generally onsite and ready to help with any special requests. When I visited, he made our group vegan pancakes!

Call Ahead: These Thailand Resorts Might Be Able to Accommodate Vegans

Although these Thai resorts aren’t actively promoting vegan options (I don’t understand why!), if you reach out ahead of time, they should be able to ensure you’re well-fed!

A little bit of travel advice — I would reach out before booking, then reach out again before your arrival, and then remind them when you check in. I know it seems like overkill but communication throughout hotel staff can be poor (trust me, I know from experience)!

Mason Pattaya
