Glasgow Vegan Restaurant Guide: The City’s Best Food + Sweets

Updated March 8, 2024

Over 15 years ago, I visited Glasgow as a student — surviving on noodles and booze — a quite different experience from visiting today as a vegan foodie! Way back then, I don’t remember a bustling vegan or vegetarian food scene. To be honest, vegan wasn’t a typical everyday term back then, so I was eager to see how the city’s culinary scene had grown.

Spoiler alert, it’s grown and grown a lot!

Not only is Glasgow the world’s most friendly city, according to Time Out Magazine, it also has a thriving food scene with fantastic vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants!

With my long list of excellent vegan restaurants prepared, I hit the streets to see what was the best — it’s a difficult job, but someone’s got to do it! The next time you’re in Glasgow, make sure you don’t miss a single one of these fantastic spots!

The 9 Best Vegan Restaurants in Glasgow

Whether you’re looking for vegan breakfast, cakes, tacos, or veggie-packed dishes, you’ll find it in Glasgow!

#1 Serenity Now

380 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G4 9HT
Vegan restaurant with gluten-free options
After a CrossFit-like hike up a hill with my luggage, I was looking for some serious serenity and found it at this 80s-inspired vegan café. The small breakfast and lunch spot is decked out in pink and Robin’s Egg blue with greenery lining the picture window — the perfect place to slide into a booth and enjoy an epic vegan breakfast feast!

Their vegan menu is nothing short of creative – traditional dishes, but all with something a little extra. Nachos? Yep, but make ‘em buffalo! Avocado toast? Yep, but with chickpea smash with multi-seed dukkha. Plus, a terrific lineup of fruity and veggie-packed smoothies and wellness lattes packed with all your favorite adaptogenic ‘shrooms.

The only drawback is they are only open until 4 PM — so make sure you don’t dilly dally getting over there.

#2 Plant Blonde

61-63 Hyndland St, Partick, Glasgow G11 5PS
Vegan bakery & cafe
New to the Glasgow vegan scene is this whimsical vegan bakery! I overheard someone passing by say, “This place always has such pretty things!” Yes, indeed! They have pretty things, but also absolutely delicious things!

Their menu features cupcakes covered in creamy buttercream, tender scones, crisp Scottish Empire biscuits, and much more. Make sure you pair one of those delicious cakes or cookies with a creamy oat milk latte or cappuccino.

But, if you need something more than a sweet treat, also check out their daily lineup of house-made sandwiches, all made with greens from a local farm.

#3 Glasvegan

50 St Enoch Square, Glasgow G1 4DH
Vegan Restaurant with gluten-free options
Right in the heart of the city center is this funky little vegan café. A giant horse mural, chalkboard menus, and wooden benches set the scene for enjoying delicious vegan comfort food. Anything that anyone has said that can’t be made vegan can be found on the Glasvegan menu!

Don’t skip the hearty Scottish breakfast — the plate is overflowing with toast, beans, sausages, potatoes, and more! You’ll be fully carb’d up for a full day of sightseeing. But, if you don’t make it here until lunchtime or later, they’ve got you covered with mac-n-cheese, doner kebab, nachos, and burgers.  Make sure not to miss one of their house-made desserts!

#4 The 13th Note

50-60 King St, Glasgow G1 5QT
Vegan restaurant with gluten-free options
A local told me that this vegan restaurant by day and music venue by night draws the likes of Billie Eilish along with other celebs, so naturally, I had to check it out! The laid-back lounge is an easygoing spot for lunch or dinner.

The menu features a mix of comfort and global inspiration — Goan curry with eggplant and mushrooms or super cheesy mac-n-cheese – they aren’t short on variety or creativity! Sadly, I didn’t have a run-in with any vegan celebs (sigh), but I did have a tasty run-in with a bowl of crispy Korean cauliflower – that was well worth the visit!

The energy at this hip LGBTIQA+ club and vegan restaurant is infectious. Even on a Tuesday night, the energy is high, and the banana blossom tacos and deep-fried mac-n-cheese balls are coming out at lightning speed!

The menu is as creative as the space – globally -inspired and often features new and innovative ingredients; it’s safe to say that you won’t be disappointed. Aside from food, the bar is also slinging creative cocktails with smoky mezcal and basil-infused vodka, along with a lengthy selection of beer — you won’t leave thirsty!
