The Best Vegan Bakeries & Dessert Spots in Detroit

No matter if you’re in the mood for a cute cupcake or plump donut, you’ll find it at one of these vegan or vegan-friendly Detroit sweet spots!

#1 Estella’s Vegan Cuisine & Desserts

19120 Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48223
One of the newest vegan bakeries in Detroit! Known for their lineup of house-made pound cakes in a variety of delicious flavors like carrot, turtle, lemon, red velvet, and more.

Honestly, these pound cakes are so good, even the staunchest dairy lover would have no idea it’s vegan! Aside from a slice of heaven cake (I mean, pound cake), their menu also features an assortment of muffins, sweetbreads, cookies, and more! Oh, and back to the pound cake, they also have a gluten-free version—hooray!

#2 Planthropie

135 Pierce St, Birmingham, MI 48009
Looking for something oh-so-sophisticated but also absolutely delicious? Then look no further than Detroit’s only vegan dessert and cheese bar! These little works of cake art are organic, sugar-free, mostly gluten-free, and will delight your taste buds with an array of amazing flavors.

Their cake lineup is to-die-for. Honestly, I don’t know how people choose just one, but they are mini so I say you don’t have to choose just one (or two for that matter). Whatever you choose, don’t miss my favorite, Triple Raspberry Cacao, it has multiple layers of luscious white chocolate, fudge, and cashew cream — I promise you won’t be disappointed.

#3 Bon Bon Bon

441 W Canfield St Suite 12, Detroit, MI 48201
Forget those boring boxes of drugstore chocolates, this funky vegan-friendly chocolate shop is whipping up an array of handmade chocolates that will make you do a happy dance! While there are only three vegan chocolate flavors (hopefully they make more!), they are anything but average.

Grab yourself a Vegan Cutie Bon trio which comes with one each of Strawberry Balsamic (rich chocolate ganache in a dark chocolate shell with Strawberry confiture, balsamic reduction, and berry dust), The Rustler (Ranger cookie ganache with toasted coconut, dark chocolate drizzle, in a dark chocolate shell), and Pudge Brownie (dark chocolate sorghum walnut gianduja in a dark chocolate shell with alkalized cocoa powder).

#4 For the Love of Sugar

100 Erskine St, Detroit, MI 48201
With one forkful of their tender vanilla bean cake, you might just exclaim “for the love of sugar” in pure joy! This vegan-friendly bakery can whip up vegan creations of their signature cake flavors like chocolate or banana cake with peanut butter or cookie butter filling, but just make sure you order ahead of time!

If you’re not interested in getting a whole cake (which I’m not sure why), grab a few of their house-made vegan and gluten-free macarons or a pint of vegan chunky monkey ice cream (that would pair nicely with the cake if you ask me)!

All of the donuts are made to order — start with the vegan vanilla cake base then go to town with an array of fun toppings like Oreos, sprinkles, cinnamon and sugar, and more. If you’re ordering more than a couple, be sure to order ahead of time.

How can you say no to a scoop (or two) of avocado chocolate chip!? You can’t, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg at this vegan-friendly ice cream shop. Their flavors rotate regularly to include seasonal flavors and always feature a mix of sorbets along with ice creams made with oat, coconut, and soy milk.

Aside from ice cream, they also have vegan cookies from D’vine Cookie Co.—these always pair nicely with a couple of scoops!

Waffle cones are so last year! You’ve got to get your hands on a sweet Chimney Cake! These fluffy sweet breads are like if a churro and donut decided to get married and then add ice cream to its relationship! What could be better?

The traditional Chimney Cake is vegan as is, and you can fill it up with pineapple or strawberry Dole Whip but the fun doesn’t end there! You can top it with a ton of delicious sweets like fresh fruit, Oreo crumbs, coconut, and more.
