5 Vegan Breakfast Hotspots in Florence, Italy

Updated January 3, 2024

I was pleasantly surprised by the vegan scene in Florence. I found bowls of creamy, truffle-infused pasta, edible works of chocolate art, plump cashew-stuffed ravioli, but then breakfast rolled around. It’s not like tumbleweeds rolled into town at the break of dawn, but the pickings did get a little slim!

Although they were slimmer, they weren’t nonexistent. Which, to be fair, happens more often than not, or the vegan option is a fruit plate (been there, done that, and probably have a picture to prove it).

No matter if you’re looking for a sweet cinnamon roll to accompany your oat milk latte or spinach and berry-packed smoothie bowl, you’ll find it in Florence! To start your day on the right foot, make sure you roll out of bed and check out one of these five vegan and vegan-friendly breakfast spots.

Where to Find Vegan Breakfast Options in Florence, Italy

#1 Raw Vegan Firenze

Via Sant’Agostino, 11B, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy
For a fresh, green start to your day, there’s no better place to go in Florence than Raw Vegan Firenze! This charming spot prides itself on creating a rainbow of dishes that are better for you and the animals.

In the morning, you can fuel your day with a smoothie bowl packed with acai, banana, peanut butter, greens, coconut, mango, and more! In addition to crowd-pleasing smoothie bowls, they’ve also got overnight oatmeal, chia pudding, cold-pressed juices, and more. Coffee lovers won’t want to miss their equally colorful latte lineup — check out the light blue Unicorn Latte for something tasty and slightly sweet!

#2 Base V Juicery

Three locations in Florence on Via dei Neri, Via de’ Guicciardini, & inside The Social Hub
Like Raw Firenze, this vegetarian juice shop and cafe is on a mission to help people choose more sustainable and healthy plant-rich foods.

You’ve probably already guessed from the name what their menu is all about, but there’s more than just juice! In addition to a hefty lineup of cold-pressed juices with some pretty fun names (who doesn’t want to be a healthy dude?), you’ll also find superfood smoothies, acai bowls, and signature toasts topped with avocado, hummus, and more! One more can’t-miss note about stopping here: if you have a sweet tooth, all of their baked goods and sweets are vegan and gluten-free! I highly recommend the rich banana bread!

#3 Carduccio – II Salotto Bio

Sdrucciolo de’ Pitti, 10 R, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy
Tucked away on a quiet street is this lovely vegetarian health food shop and café that’s ready to help put a healthy pep in your step. While enjoying an endless selection of house-made bowls topped with fresh fruit and granola, you’ll want to also enjoy the scenery. This spot is absolutely ready for its close-up and looks like it’s been plucked from under the Tuscan Sun.

On top of berry-filled bowls, you’ll also want to try their ailment-fighting lineup of cold-pressed juices and shots (warning, the ginger will make you breathe fire) and house-made cakes and bread. On top of being vegan, many of their house-made treats are also gluten-free and made without oil.

#4 The Shake Café

Multiple locations throughout Florence
Man, I was happy to find that this vegan-friendly café offered something more than a smoothie bowl! No shade smoothie bowls, but I really don’t want to have you every day of the week! You’ll find Shake Cafes peppered throughout Florence and close to major sights like the Accademia Gallery and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, making them ideal spots to start your day.

Each location’s menu varies slightly, but their website is a great place to check the full offerings and confirm what’s vegan and even gluten-free! The first up on their breakfast menu is the ever-popular toast section, but this time, it’s a little different. In addition to avocado toast, they also have sweet potato toast, and it’s not toast topped with sweet potato; the toast is the sweet potato — I highly recommend it. In addition to that, you might also fancy a stack of fluffy chocolate and orange pancakes or a chickpea omelet!

#5 Wild Buns Bakery

Via di Camaldoli, 1/c, 50124 Firenze FI, Italy
This sweet Scandinavian bakery is baking up a sugar storm, and luckily, it didn’t forget about its vegan friends! Wild Buns is well known for its perfectly golden pastries and always has a gorgeous vegan cinnamon roll and sometimes a sweet bread, which pair perfectly with a creamy oat milk latte. If you don’t have a sweet tooth in the morning, don’t worry, there’s more! Every day, the bakeshop always has a veggie sandwich packed with avocado, chickpea salad, and more on house-made bread.

A Possible Vegan-Friendly Breakfast Spot in Florence

Veg & Veg

Piazza del Mercato Centrale, 4/1° piano, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy (on the second floor)
Tucked on the second floor of the bustling Central Market in a sea of meaty vendors is this beacon of veggie hope! In the morning, this casual vegetarian eatery offers stacks of sweet and salty pancakes, but I couldn’t visit them for breakfast to confirm if some of them are vegan. If you’re in the area, pop in there and check ‘em out.
