Are vegan restaurants in Hoi An actually as easy to find as people say?

Hoi An is a must-visit stop on almost every Vietnam itinerary, and for good reason. This UNESCO-listed town was once a major trading port, and you can still feel that mix of influences in its architecture, food, and overall pace of life.

People come for the lantern-lit streets, the riverfront cafes, and to soak up what feels like Vietnamese culture at its purest.

Luckily for us, a large part of that culture is also vegan, and there are quality plant-based options spread across both local and more modern spots.

Vegan Restaurants in Hoi An: Traditional Meets Modern

Alongside these traditional spots, newer vegan cafés and restaurants have helped make things even easier for travelers.

The result is a food scene that feels both authentic and accessible, whether you want something quick and local or a more polished sit-down meal. For a city this size, the consistency and quality in Hoi An make it really special. Let’s explore the spots that do it best!

PlantLab Restaurant

PlantLab was easily one of the most beautiful places I went to in Hoi An, which is saying a lot in a city that’s stunning almost everywhere you look.

And then there’s the food.

The menu feels quite European, which can be a nice change when you want a little break from Vietnamese food. You’ve got everything from sourdough pizzas to salads, banging breakfasts, and some genuinely excellent drink options. It’s healthy, but not in a restrictive way. You can still come here and eat something that feels like a treat.

During one visit I went for a pizza, shock, and it was amazing. The dough was perfect, loads of umami in the sauce, toppings spot on, and some rather impressive vegan cheese (especially considering we’re in Vietnam). On another, I went for curry (see below)!

Their smoothies are worth mentioning too, because sometimes a big meal isn’t always the answer on a hot day in Hoi An. One of their smoothies will keep you going for hours, and also happens to taste incredible. To top it all off, they make their own vegan cheeses on-site, which is a surefire way to win me over. I really wanted to buy some, but sadly, wasn’t staying long enough to justify it.

Chickpea Eatery: Vietnamese Vegan Restaurant

Next up is another gorgeous restaurant in this oh-so-picturesque city, I’m starting to see a pattern here. Chickpea Eatery is right in the heart of Hoi An Old Town, and always seems to have a buzz around it. It’s family-run, and you can feel that straight away. Friendly staff, relaxed vibe, and a truly beautiful space.

This is where you come for proper Vietnamese food, done vegan.You have dishes like cao lầu, bánh mì, and cơm gà, all recreated using tofu, mushrooms, and soy-based proteins, without losing what makes them good in the first place.The menu is also surprisingly varied. If you don’t want local food, there are burgers, pasta, and a few other options too.

And it’s very reasonable. I enjoyed an absolute feast with some new friends I met in the city. The night’s a blur, but I can still remember the crispy spring rolls and Vietnamese pancake (I’m a sucker for anything fried, if you hadn’t already noticed).They also run vegan cooking classes, which look amazing, and I’d love to try next time.

Good portions, fair prices, and a chance to try signature dishes that aren’t normally on the menu for vegans. Chickpea Eatery is a no-brainer for any hungry herbivores in Hoi An.

Kurumi – Healthy Vegan Food & Desserts

With a 5-star rating from more than 2,000 reviews on Google, it’s clear KURUMI is doing something right.It’s arguably the most modern vegan restaurant in Hoi An, and you feel that straight away from the menu. They also have a branch in Da Nang.

It’s less about traditional Vietnamese dishes and more about clean, fresh, well-built meals that actually leave you feeling good after.

You’ve got smoothie bowls, solid sourdough toasts, and bowls full of joy. It’s light yet filling, and hits the spot every time. It’s definitely on the pricier side for Hoi An, and Vietnam generally. However, I wasn’t complaining as I tucked into a quesadilla packed with plant-based “mince”, roasted veggies, fresh avocado, and cashew cheese.

Everything feels balanced. Nothing is overdone, nothing feels heavy, and there’s a real focus on ingredients that make sense together. It’s simple, but done properly.

It also fills a bit of a gap in Hoi An. With so much incredible local vegan food around, KURUMI gives you that slightly different option when you want a break, without dropping the quality. Yes, it’s expensive. But the fresh, healthy, and delicious food on offer certainly justifies a trip (or two) to KURUMI during your time in Hoi An.

Mộc Lâm An Vegan

The last two spots on this list are less about aesthetics, and more about authenticity, community, and connection. First up is Mộc Lâm An Vegan. I have nothing but love and admiration for this place.

It’s where I truly fell in love with fresh spring rolls (I’d always preferred the crispy version). With a thicker rice paper wrapper than usual, dipping it into that spicy peanut sauce is what dreams are made of. It was a total texture and flavor overload.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Mộc Lâm An is proper, no-frills Vietnamese food, done well, at prices that almost don’t make sense. We’re talking less than a dollar to $1.50 at most for single dishes across the menu. Sharing hotpots for up to four people might set you back around $8.

With everything from cao lầu and noodle soups to rice plates and classic local favorites, you can’t go wrong. The whole menu is a joy and a delight to flick through. And as a chay restaurant, every single dish they serve has history and is steeped in tradition. So if you really want to experience the culture in Hoi An, especially as a vegan, Mộc Lâm An should be top of the list.

CHAY Corner – Vietnamese Dumplings

Last but by no means least on this list is Chay Corner, a restaurant I have so much time for.

It’s all about the food here. Food is love, and this place is full of it. Simple, honest, and so damn delicious. There’s no polished branding in sight, no curated decor, just a relaxed space where the focus is entirely on what’s coming out of the kitchen. And that’s exactly how it should be.

The menu is simple, but packed with familiar Vietnamese dishes that are mostly vegan. Only a few of them have egg. Just let the staff know you’re plant-based and they’ll help, they’re super lovely.

The dumplings are a must. Soft, chewy, and full of umami. We also tried a mix of fried bits that I wouldn’t be able to tell you the name of. All I know is that they had chives in, and I couldn’t stop eating them. Nothing’s overcomplicated, it’s just really well-executed food that’s comforting and satisfying. It almost feels like a throwback, a restaurant from the past in all the best ways.

And it’s incredibly affordable, so if you’re after genuine vegan Vietnamese food, Chay Corner delivers every time and there’s no need to think twice.
