Trip activity level: This tour includes a variety of activities; anyone with an average level of fitness should be just fine. You are able to sit out activities if you’d like.
Special activity: we will participate in an eco-tree planting activity in the Hvolsvollur Valley. Since the arrival of the first settlers to Iceland, deforestation has taken place in order to make space for pastures. The owners implemented a planting project on their land to contribute to lowering CO2 and counteract soil erosion.

Is This Tour For You?

This itinerary covers a lot of ground and includes many fantastic activities and sights, which means there will be some long days and early mornings.
We will spend one night in each location, so its best to pack light!
We will spend a lot of time in a passenger van, but will stop often as there is much to see. This is the best way to see the diverse country and not just the popular tourist sights.
Parts of Iceland are far more vegan-friendly than others! Meals in more rural areas might be more simple.
Iceland’s weather can be unpredictable — it’s important to always pack layers.
The trip can be enjoyed by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. The hikes (and glacier walk) include rocky or uneven surfaces, if you’re unsure if it’s a fit for you, ask.

Day 1: Arrive in Reykjavik

Meals included: Welcome Dinner

Welcome to Iceland! Your adventure begins in Reykjavik, Iceland’s quirky capital. Tonight meet your group and tour
leader for a 6pm welcome meeting. If you arrive early, take a stroll and acquaint yourself with the world’s
northernmost capital. Perhaps visit the National Museum to see the permanent exhibition on the history of Iceland.

After the welcome meeting, we’ll head out as a group for dinner.

Day 2: Borgarfjordur / Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Destination: Borgarfjordur / Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

Today you’ll board a private vehicle and drive to Borgarfjordur area and visit the spectacular waterfalls of
Hraunfossar (Lava waterfalls) and Barnafossar (Children’s waterfalls). Continue to Deildartunguhver – Europe’s
hottest water spring.

In the afternoon, we will head to our hotel in the southern part of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

Day 3: Snaefellsnes Peninsula / Skagafjordur

Destination: Snaefellsnes Peninsula / Skagafjordur
Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

Today we will continue around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and its magnificent glacier Snaefellsjokull, an icecap
covering a dormant volcano underneath. Places we will visit today include the small town of Budir, basaltic pebble
beaches framed by strange lava formations, and Arnarstapi, where a short stroll along the coastal cliffs gives you
access to the rich birdlife and other wonders of nature.

Continue to the pretty town of Grundarfjordur, where you’ll stop and meet a local artist by the name of Liston, who will show you his workshop. This is a great opportunity to admire his stone carving pieces and to find out about the life of a local artisan. Afterwards, drive to Saudarkrokur in Iceland’s north, located on beautiful Skagafjordur Fjord.

Day 4: Peninsula/Akureyri/Husavik

Destination: Peninsula/Akureyri/Husavik

Drive around the picturesque Trollaskagi Peninsula and visit the small fishing town of Siglufjordur. Explore the
compact town center, dwarfed by towering mountains on three sides, and opening up to the fjord on its northern
side. Further along the stunning coast you’ll have the special opportunity to dip your toes in the Arctic Ocean.

Continue to Hauganes, where you will get to know the gentle giants of Iceland’s waters on board a carbon
neutral whale watching tour. Minke and humpback whales are commonly spotted in these parts, and the boat
keeps a respectful distance from the whales, allowing you to observe them in their natural environment without
disturbing or distressing them. You’ll be joined on board by an expert whale watching guide who will help to spot
these beautiful creatures while providing insight on their lives and habitats in Arctic waters.

Continue to the town of Akureyri, Iceland’s second town, where you will have an orientation walk. Perhaps visit the church – the unique building is an iconic symbol of the town. Next, drive to the mighty waterfall of Godafoss, also known as The Waterfall of the Gods, before continuing to your hotel in Husavik.

Day 5: Husavik/Lake Myvatn/Egilsstadir

Destination: Husavik/Lake Myvatn/Egilsstadir

Start the day with a journey to Lake Myvatn, one of the most interesting geological areas of the northern
hemisphere. Visit a number of geological anomalies lining the lake’s shoreline, including the lava labyrinth of
Dimmuborgir and the pseudo-crater group at Skutustadir, and the boiling mud pots and sulphuric vents of
Namaskard.

During the day visit the wonderful Goðafoss and Dettifoss waterfalls. Emerge yourself in the beauty of nature while hiking in Hengifoss. Drive via the highlands to your overnight stop at Egilsstadir.

Day 6: East Fjords/Jokulsarlon

Destination: East Fjords/Jokulsarlon

This morning after breakfast, continue along the beautiful coastal region of Iceland’s East Fjords, taking in
spectacular views of the varied landscape as soaring mountains give way to deep fjords. If you are lucky you may
even spot a seal or two. With a little detour, you will have an opportunity to watch puffins in their natural habitat.

Next we will drive to the famous Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. You have an opportunity to do an optional boat tour on the milky blue waters (appr. 15 000 ISK pp). Get up close and personal with huge floating icebergs, originating from
Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest ice cap.

Day 7: Skaftafell National Park/South Coast/ Hella

Destination: Skaftafell National Park/South Coast/ Hella
Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

Today you’ll take a walk on Europe’s biggest ice cap – Vatnajokull – which has around 30 glaciers flowing out from it.
No experience is necessary to partake in the hike. It’s sobering to think that the glacier is retreating due to rising
world temperatures, and in some years the glacier may be gone. Visit Skaftafell National Park and walk to the
tongue of the glacier of the same name. Drive over the black sands and lava formations caused by the Laki eruption
of 1782-1783, an event that has shaped Iceland’s history and culture.

Visit the waterfalls of Seljarlandsfoss and Skogafoss, then stop off at an eco-farm in the Hvolsvollur Valley – the leader in responsible tourism and sustainability in Iceland. Since the arrival of the first settlers to Iceland, deforestation has taken place in order to make space for pastures. The owners implemented a planting project on their land to contribute to lowering CO2 and counteract soil erosion. Join the effort and head out into the hills surrounding the property to plant trees yourself. Later in the day, continue to your base for the evening near Hella.

Please note that the tree planting activity and glacier walk are dependent on weather conditions. In order to be able to fit the ice crampons you will need to wear hiking boots. If you don’t have any, you can rent them onsite.

I’m solo, is there a single supplement?

Yes, the single supplement is $1,490. We can also try and room you with another single passenger if you’d like to save you some cash.

Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for all of our trips, and we’re happy to provide you with a recommended company and/or quote. It’s essential to have a policy that provides cancellation, medical, and emergency repatriation coverage. It’s also a good idea to take out the policy right after making the trip deposit. If you decide to forego travel insurance, you will be required to sign a travel insurance waiver that states you’re taking personal responsibility for any costs due to cancellation, trip delay, emergency medical, and repatriation should they arise.

I have a friend who wants to come but they aren’t vegan. Will there be non-vegan food options?

We prioritize ensuring that vegan options are the focus for all included meals. Many places will have non-vegan options but those would be available to them at an additional cost. There are also a few meals that aren’t included and your friend could choose whatever they like then!

What’s the trip activity level?

This trip has an average level of activity that is manageable for most people with a general level of fitness. There is a fair amount of walking/hiking but none of it is overly challenging. If you have questions about a specific activity, please reach out!

Do I need a visa to enter Iceland?

U.S. citizens may enter Iceland without a visa for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes. Starting mid-2025, American nationals will need to apply for travel authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before arriving in Europe.

What is the deadline to reserve my spot?

A non-refundable deposit of $400 (if you cancel it can be moved to another tour), is due by December 16, 2024. Final payment for the trip is due January 31, 2025.

What’s not included in the tour price?

Are kids allowed on the tour?

Unfortunately, this itinerary isn’t suited for young kids. The age requirement is 16 years old and up.

Are Covid-19 or any other vaccines required?

The CDC suggests that you’re up to date on all routine vaccines. It’s best to consult your doctor for specific needs.

Are there things I should keep in mind before booking a trip like this?

Yes!
– This trip will cover A LOT of ground, which is awesome, but that means we will be on the move everyday. Although we will have some long drives, we will stop often as there is much to see.
– Parts of Iceland are far more vegan-friendly than others! The capital, Reykjavik has multiple vegan and vegetarian restaurants but outside of the capital all restaurants are either vegan-friendly or will cater to our group. Meals in more rural areas might be more simple than at other times.
– Iceland’s history involves whaling and hunting. It is much less of a focus today but there are still reminders of it in businesses throughout the country.
– Iceland’s weather is wild; even in May! Pack layers and prepare for everything from bright, sunny days to snow!

How many people are in the group and is there a group minimum?

This will be a small group of only 16 passengers plus a guide(s) throughout the trip. Yes, there is a minimum, we must have at least 9 passengers for the trip to be confirmed; in order to keep the pricing of $5310 pp.

What are the booking terms?

Final Balance:
Final balance payment is required 100 days prior to travel (January 31, 2025)

Cancellation by the traveler:
Cancellation prior to 100 days; we will hold the deposit amount as a credit.
Cancellation 99 days or inside prior to travel will incur 100% cancellation fees
No shows will be treated as a cancellation and will incur 100% cancellation fees.
