Why Travel with Veggies Abroad? Traveling with Veggies Abroad offers a unique and responsible travel experience, prioritizing sustainable and vegan-friendly practices. We partner with local companies on every trip who know the destination and are able to create an authentic and immersive experience for you! Currently, all of our itineraries are created in partnership with the Certified B Corp., Intrepid Travel, which offsets the carbon for the land-based portion of the itinerary.
Each itinerary also supports eco-friendly and vegan accommodations (when possible), ethical animal experiences, local guides, and community-integrated activities, emphasizing the importance of responsible spending. Travelers will enjoy vegan meals and diverse activities, all designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the destinations while supporting businesses dedicated to ethical travel.
At Veggies Abroad, we’re dedicated to using travel as a tool for good and hope to inspire you to do the same!
I’m solo, is there a single supplement? Yes, the single supplement is $656. We can also try and room you with another single passenger if you’d like to save you some cash.
Is travel insurance required? Travel insurance is highly recommended for all of our trips, and we’re happy to provide you with a recommended company and/or quote. It’s essential to have a policy that provides cancellation, medical, and emergency repatriation coverage. It’s also a good idea to take out the policy right after making the trip deposit. If you decide to forego travel insurance, you will be required to sign a travel insurance waiver that states you’re taking personal responsibility for any costs due to cancellation, trip delay, emergency medical, and repatriation should they arise.
I have a friend who wants to come but they aren’t vegan. Will there be non-vegan food options? We prioritize ensuring that vegan options are the focus for all included meals. Many places will have non-vegan options but those would be available to them at an additional cost. There are also a few meals that aren’t included and your friend could choose whatever they like then!
Do I need a visa to enter Ecuador? Americans, Australian, Belgians, British, Canadians, Dutch, Germans, New Zealanders and South Africans do not
currently require a visa for Ecuador. For all other nationalities please reconfirm your visa or entry requirements with
the Ecuador consulate in your home country.
What’s the trip activity level? This is an active trip! This trip involves a lot of walking, though not much of it is overly strenuous. The trip is recommended for those with a moderate level of fitness but there are also a few different trail options to suit your interests and physical capabilities. Please bring durable footwear suitable to hiking. It’s important to be in good physical health to participate in the trip fully.
What is the Yunguilla community? Yunguilla is a community located in Ecuador’s Chocó Andean Cloud Forest, approximately an hour north of Quito. Since 1995, its residents have been dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable development, leading to the establishment of the Yunguilla Conservation and Sustainable Use Area.
The community has implemented various eco-friendly projects, including organic orchards, fruit processing facilities, and reforestation efforts. These initiatives aim to improve local livelihoods while preserving the environment.
Yunguilla offers authentic tourism experiences that immerse visitors in daily community activities. Visitors can participate in jam production, organic gardening, traditional crafts, hiking, bird-watching, and exploring the biodiversity of the cloud forest.
Visiting this community means supporting local sustainable tourism and their micro businesses.

Are kids allowed on the tour? Unfortunately, this itinerary isn’t suited for young kids. The age requirement is 16 years old and up.
Are Covid-19 or any other vaccines required? Health officials suggest that you’re up to date on all routine vaccines and there are additional vaccines you may want to consider getting before arriving. Things like mosquito borne illnesses are common, its best to discuss those and others (like altitude sickness and seasickness) with a doctor before departing. If you enter Ecuador from a country where yellow fever exists, you must have a vaccination against yellow fever.
Will altitude sickness affect me? This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. It’s best to consult your doctor for ways to mitigate issues if you’re sensitive to altitude. It’s best to not overexert yourself with intense exercise when you first arrive. If possibly, it’s a good idea to arrive a day or so early to acclimate.
If you have pre-existing health issues, it could worsen due to altitude, your doctor will be able to provide additional information.
How do we travel between the islands in the Galapagos? This trip involves a lot of travel by speedboat between the various Galapagos Islands. The rides can be quite bumpy at times, but the good news is that seasickness can often be managed with medication. Please consult a health professional to assess your suitability for such medication.
What are the accommodations like? Some of the accommodations, especially on the islands, are a little more basic. They will always be clean and safe but if you’re looking for The Four Seasons, this might not be the right experience for you! It’s also important to note that hot water can be sporadic in some parts of the Galapagos, so there may be a few cold showers on the trip. Lastly, the Galapagos is a great place to switch off and take a break from your phone, as internet access can be patchy and wifi is not always available or reliable.
Here are the included hotels:
Patio Andaluz Hotel – Quito
Casa de Nelly Hotel – San Cristobal
Lobo de Mar Hotel – Santa Cruz

Please keep in mind in the unexpected event that something happens we may have to change hotels. We will notify you if that happens.
