As we walk through Lima’s elegant plazas and historic streets, you’ll learn about the stories and influences that shaped the city.

We’ll end the day with an included lunch at a local vegan restaurant, featuring plant-based dishes inspired by traditional Peruvian flavors.

Rise early for an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. After a transfer to Lima Airport, you’ll board a flight to Puerto Maldonado, often called the Capital of Biodiversity.

Upon arrival, your Amazon adventure begins with a scenic boat ride along the clay-colored Madre de Dios River to reach your jungle home, Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, a beautiful eco-lodge set within a private rainforest reserve. After settling into your wooden cabaña, enjoy lunch before heading out with your guide to explore the surrounding rainforest trails.

Walk through lush jungle pathways as you’re introduced to the remarkable ecosystems of the Amazon basin, located near the protected Tambopata National Reserve. As evening approaches, experience the rainforest from a new perspective on a Twilight River boat ride, when daytime wildlife gives way to nocturnal creatures. Keep an eye out for caiman along the riverbanks and the brilliant stars of the southern hemisphere above.

After a day immersed in nature, return to the lodge for dinner featuring local Amazonian ingredients before relaxing in your cabaña to the nighttime sounds of the rainforest.

Included Activities:

  • Transfer from the hotel to Lima Airport, in private service
  • Domestic flight Lima – Puerto Maldonado in economy class

This morning, visit Lake Sandoval, a beautiful oxbow lake located within the protected Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. After a short walk along a jungle trail, board a traditional canoe and quietly paddle through palm-fringed waters as your guide points out the incredible wildlife that calls this area home. Keep an eye out for colorful birds, red howler monkeys, giant river otters, macaws, turtles, and even black caiman as you glide across the serene lake. Afterwards, return to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción for lunch at the lodge.

In the afternoon, take a short boat ride across the Madre de Dios River to experience the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. This network of suspension bridges stretches high above the rainforest floor, offering a rare opportunity to observe the jungle from the treetops. From the elevated platforms, watch for toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys, and even sloths as you take in sweeping views of the surrounding rainforest.

  • This was our first group guided tour…

We were uncertain about letting someone else organize us, and nervous about potential group dynamics. I am delighted to say that I thoroughly recommend Veggies Abroad. Rebecca’s organization was exceptional. Our local guide Katie was warm, knowledgeable and a sheer force of nature.

  • First time traveling with Veggies Abroad, but certainly not the last.

Initially, a tour of Portugal wasn’t on my list, but so happy I went. It was a nice mixture of the local food and cultural experiences along with a bit of personal time to explore on our own. My favorite part though was the people that Rebecca brought together in the group.

Is This Tour For You?

Several destinations on this itinerary, including Cusco and Machu Picchu, are located at high altitude in the Andes. Because of this, some travelers may experience mild altitude symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath — regardless of age, fitness level, or travel experience.

Peru is a large and geographically diverse country, and reaching some of its most spectacular places requires early starts and travel between destinations by plane, train, and winding mountain roads. Some days may begin early to take advantage of the best visiting times at key sites or to accommodate transportation schedules.
